However, one negative review notes that Brookdale's reputation depends heavily on the individual community leader and staff. This isn’t senior living. it’s suffering. My grandmother’s 2nd-degree burns prove it That wasn’t a typo. And yes, you read it right. My grandmother was handed “soup” so hot it left her with second-degree burns through her jeans. Common serving temperature for soup is around 160 degrees, hot enough to cause instant injury. And yet, in a building full of seniors who often need assistance, Brookdale thought it was fine to serve it unmonitored and unchecked. The cruelty didn’t stop at the spill. They left her sitting in those burning jeans, never acknowledging her agony, never calling us, never even filing an incident report. For more than 16 hours, her blisters and swelling worsened while staff passed the blame instead of wrapping her wounds or getting her help. And when the ambulance finally showed up? That was only because we arrived and demanded it. The paramedics took one look and said it themselves: these burns were so severe she needed the burn unit. Now, for almost two weeks, she’s been forced to endure painful scrubbing and cleaning of her wounds, all because of Brookdale’s negligence and inaction. Sadly, this isn’t an isolated incident. So before you consider sending your beloved family member here, ask yourself: Am I willing to ignore these red flags? Food served at scalding, unsafe temperatures No immediate care or family notification after serious injuries Basic dignity and personal care neglected Leadership instability and no accountability Families deserve more than glossy brochures and staged photos. My grandmother’s burns, and the suffering that followed, are the truth of Brookdale Senior Living. If corporate won’t act, then families like mine will keep telling the truth until someone listens.
I would not recommend working here or placing family members here. The facility is dirty and has bed bugs. When I reported it to the director, I was told they had already ‘used all of their pest inspections for the month,’ and residents were even placed back in those same rooms. Management was horrible. A staff member named Donna Lisa created a hostile work environment, retaliating against employees who couldn’t pick up shifts or make there shifts. When I had to take my grandmother to a kidney appointment (and offered proof), she became very loud and hostile, making unprofessional and embarrassing comments. At one point, she even suggested going outside as if to fight me. Management knew about this behavior and did nothing. This place is unsafe, unprofessional, and not clean. I would not recommend it.
My father has been living at Brookdale Arrowhead Ranch for almost a year. Let me start by saying that the Executive Director, Sylvia, is by far the most caring, dedicated, supportive & understanding person that I have met in such a long time. She literally goes above & beyond to help the residents & their family navigate through all facets of assisted living/memory care. My family and I truly appreciates her and are very grateful to her & all of the caring staff at Brookdale. I did tour a few other facilities in the beginning and I am very happy we chose Brookdale Arrowhead Ranch.
From the first week my mom moved in, November 1, 2022, my mom told lots of friends and family members: Brookdale is great, I have new friends, play bingo twice a week and enjoy the food. Over the next year, my mom enjoyed music time, playing games and watching the crafts. During that year I asked her several times are you happy here, she always said yes. She also appreciated that my brother and I each saw her twice a week. My mom was then diagnosed with an incurable cancer. For the next three months, my mom had no pain and ate the pureed food from the dining room. She enjoyed the variety and especially the sweet potatoes. Her last two months she ate less and less and slept more all the time. The nurses and med tech staff gave her medication as needed. It was during this time that the caring staff of Brookdale shined. From reception, administration, medical, cleaning, maintenance and food services, all employees had time to say hello or answer any questions or provide me with tips to make mom more comfortable. My mom and my family were shown compassion by everyone! It is truly a calling to take care of the elderly; and our experience has been one of nurturing.
My Mom has been at Brookdale Arrowhead almost 3 yrs now. Sylvia, the director of the facility has always gone above and beyond to make sure the residents are being well taken care of. She has always been very responsive with any questions or concerns I had. She actually cares about the residents and strives to make Brookdale a comfortable and safe place for the residents. Not only does she care about the residents, she cares about the families knowing its hard to have to place your parent in assisted living. Would also like to thank Rochelle, the staff Nurse for always being there as well to make sure my mom and all residents get the care they deserve.
