The initial tour was great and they are very nice, making a lot of promises, but ultimately cleanliness and responsible care are not prioritized here. Additionally, while the initial cost draws you in, there are a LOT of hidden fees, so they ended up being more expensive than the nicer, higher quality facilities in the area. Do your research and tour other places before you commit to this place. My 83yr old mother is moving out of Marbella after only 3 weeks. We are horrified at the lack of care, serious incompetence and lack of basic health and safety standards. Here are examples: Staff Incompetence/Negligence: . 1. On her 3rd night, my mother was taken from Marbella to the hospital due to a severe UTI and experienced the following unacceptable problems: a. ALL THREE of the contact phone numbers (both daughters and her brother) were input by Marbella incorrectly, so no family members could be contacted by the hospital. b. Her NAME was misspelled by Marbella in residence records, which made it extremely difficult for the hospital to find any prior health records. The hospital staff at Anaheim Regional made a note of these egregious errors and insisted we file a complaint. d. On 12/31/25 at 4:00am, someone from Marbella’s staff left a message on her daughter’s voicemail. When she called back a few hours later to follow up, Marbella had no record of the call. My mother had apparently fallen out of bed, but it was not logged in her file because she wasn’t injured. For residents with fragile health, EVERY incident should be recorded even if there appears to be no injury. e. On 1/13/2026 at approximately 3:30 pm, my mother was sliding off the bed and called for help. When the helper arrived, she handed her the phone but left without assisting her onto the bed. She then pushed the call button again but after 10 more minutes, her daughter (who was on the phone with her) resorted to calling the front desk for help, which finally arrived after 15 minutes. This is all documented by the video recorder in the room. No resident, especially one who struggles with balance, should be required to wait this long for assistance nor should our family bear the responsibility of summoning help because the resident is ignored. 2. While my mother is only bathed with the help of staff twice per week, her clothing is supposed to be changed daily. She has gone THREE days without a clothing change at least once. This is not something we, as her family, should have to monitor. 3. Her brother found her on a different floor completely unattended and feeling abandoned. She was supposed to attend an exercise class but was taken upstairs to wait an HOUR early. 4. After being informed of the error with the spelling of her name, the nameplate on the front door to her room is currently (weeks later) spelled incorrectly. While this is not life-threatening, it further illustrates the lack of attention to detail that pervades all aspects of her care. Unsanitary Conditions: . The room is supposed to be thoroughly cleaned BEFORE a new resident moves in. However, when she moved in, we found fecal matter on the walls, floor, and door, as well as on the safety railing in the bathroom. After reporting this, the director agreed and apologized and the room was cleaned, but it still isn’t thorough. This is a clear health violation.
As a healthcare provider, I have ALOT of daily interactions with many Assisted Living Facilities. I can honestly say that this Brookdale is one of the BEST I’ve worked with in over 20 years of experience. I recently moved my dear uncle into this facility, from out of state, and the whole team has been just fabulous to work with! The entire staff is lovely. Sending a special shout out to both Jason and Troy for all their attentive and kind support. Highly recommend. 🙏💐🌻
wow! This facility is the best! My dad has been at Brookdale for over two years and everyone there is top-notch. From all the times they found stuff that he was missing, to helping him with his TV, his remote, his computer. Putting up with all of his complaints about life. I so much appreciate all their help, is wonderful. Thank you for taking care of my dad.

Troy Byington has been our director here at Anaheim, California for 3 years, and we here at Brookdale Anaheim hope he will be here for many years. I've been a resident here for 8 years. During those years I've been a resident, I have known 3 directors, Troy being the last one and by far the most able. He does not just stay in his office all day. He visits with us and sees to our wants and needs. He is so approachable and kind. He stops by our tables during meals and is so comfortable speaking with us and seeing to our wants and needs. He regularly sends us emails telling us who is new to our building, whether new residents or staff. He keeps us informed about what is going on. I hope he stays here a very long time because he has made living here a very enjoyable, safe, and informed time.
