Many residents and families praise Oakmont of Huntington Beach for its caring staff, engaging activities, and beautiful surroundings. Several reviews mention that the team, including nurses, caregivers, and activity coordinators, are attentive and go above and beyond to support residents. One family member expressed happiness that their 94-year-old mother is receiving excellent care and enjoying activities like bingo, karaoke, and happy hour. They also emphasized the quality of the food, which they found to be excellent.
Another reviewer has been pleased with the staff, noting that employees like Jorge in memory care and Liana Foote are very helpful. They also highlighted that residents have an active social life, with outings, live music, and community discussions to improve their experience. Care for their loved ones has been consistently good.
A different perspective came from a review criticizing staffing shortages, claiming some residents are not being properly cared for due to cuts aimed at saving money. They reported serious issues with abuse and inadequate outdoor activities, which contrast sharply with the more positive reviews.
Regarding food, some long-term residents have noticed a decline in quality over the years. While meals used to be top-notch, recent experiences include overcooked or cold food, and unsatisfactory sushi. Still, special events like Thanksgiving dinner received high praise.
Overall, the community offers a luxurious and active environment with a focus on wellness and quality living. Most reviews highlight attentive staff and a warm, community-oriented atmosphere. However, concerns about staffing levels and food quality have been raised by a few reviewers, indicating some areas for improvement.

After several falls at home, it was time to move Mom (age 94) to a care facility. I did an extensive search and took tours of several communities. I chose Oakmont for Mom and I'm very happy I did. Their leadership are accessible and responsive to my many questions. Caregivers Thelma, Martha and many others, led by nurse Michelle, take great care of Mom. Nurses and med techs Shabnam and Jo watch Mom carefully. Activities staff Yesenia and Cyd went above-and-beyond to bring Mom out of her shell and into the community. She's enjoying bingo, karaoke and happy hour. I'm with Mom every day at lunch time to sample the food - it's excellent, thanks to Chef Amy and her team. If you'd like to talk to a family member, I'm happy to share my experiences. Ask the front desk. Moms quality of life is outstanding and I'm so relieved that she is getting such great care.
The food has been going downhill for a few years, it was five star dining originally…now the food is over cooked, cold, or bad tasting. Tried the sushi one of the patrons refused to eat, and understood why…it was horrible!!! I asked for a BLT and everything was wonderful except the cold bacon. Only thing good was the ice cream for dessert. Although, they had a day for family to come for Thanksgiving, that was phenomenal…I personally thought they had it catered, it was good!
So I took my father in because he has dementia. They were super friendly super nice at the beginning. we put him in assisted living at first. He started having issues and then we had to move him to memory Care he had a couple issues where he was getting violent which I understand so we took him to the hospital They told us they needed to do an assessment on him before he returned, they waited 14 days then they only spent 10 minutes with him while he was asleep and told us he was not accepted. We had two days to find a place for him. It seems like they had already made their mind up and they probably could have told us that he was not going to be accepted back which I understand we spent over $15,000 and we're only there for a month we went back to remove his items and not one person greeted us or helped us they would not even look at us and walked right by us. They are not equipped to take care of certain issues they should have told us at the beginning. They did not seem to care once the money train ended.. should have gone to sunrise.
It has now been a year since my mom moved into Oakmont. When she made the decision in December 2022 to leave her home of 47 years in Huntington Beach it was a total surprise to me, but she made the decision to no longer manage 1600+ square feet of living space all by herself. When she moved in two months later, she received excellent care by the staff. Cyd was her "onboarding buddy" and he came by once a day to see how she was doing and eventually took her to some of the events as her "wing-man", introducing her to other residents and to other staff members. The care staff doted on her as she gradually adjusted. My mom has actually improved her physical fitness since she moved to Oakmont. They have an in-house Physical Therapist and you can also have your own PT come in if that is what your insurance requires. There are exercise classes at 10 am Monday through Saturday that help everyone stay fit. And I know the care staff is focused on keeping my mom safe since I get a call whenever anything has happened to her, such as a fall - though we are blessed that so far this has not included anything serious! She has a very active social life in Oakmont. Musicians come in for special events and holidays throughout the year, there are in-house activities during the day, shopping trips, outings to restaurants and museums. The residents meet regularly as a group to discuss any issues first among themselves and to gather feedback for the staff. They also have regular meetings with the chef to talk about what is working and what is not so well. I couldn't be happier that my mom is in Oakmont.
There are 2 locations I cannot speak for this one but the one closest to the library is understaffed and some residents are abused and not handled properly the owner continues to cut staff to maximize on profits sometimes only 1 caregiver is around for the main floor and the same follows with another wing. Lastly for the most serious cases they're not being rehabilitated activities are made for doddlers they never go outside and are told no
