Astoria Park Senior Living

Astoria Park Senior Living offers a warm and caring environment for seniors in Pasadena. The community emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and personalized care. Many residents and their families appreciate the friendly staff, clean facilities, and activities that promote social engagement, especially for those who speak Spanish. The community has a good reputation for feeling like a welcoming home.

However, reviews also point out some problems. Several experiences mention staff shortages, which lead to long waits for assistance and perceived neglect. Turnover among staff and management appears high, with key leaders leaving within months of each other. Some families worry about the quality of care, especially during emergencies or for residents with memory issues. There are also concerns about miscommunications and billing issues, such as being charged rent despite a loved one being hospitalized or in a different care facility.

Overall, the community has many strengths, including friendly staff and a clean, inviting environment. Still, some families feel dissatisfied due to understaffing, management challenges, and inconsistent care. The facility promotes safety measures like COVID-19 testing and sanitizing, which adds to the sense of security. Despite the negatives, many residents and visitors recommend Astoria Park for its caring atmosphere and good location, but potential families are encouraged to do their own research before deciding.

My uncle is a current resident at Astoria. From the moment you step onto the campus of Astoria Park Senior Living, you sense the care and thoughtfulness embedded in every corner. Nestled just minutes away from Old Town Pasadena and its lively atmosphere, this community beautifully blends elegance, comfort, and accessibility—making it an ideal haven for seniors seeking peace and engagement alike. The facility's atmosphere radiates cleanliness, warmth, and professionalism. Residents and their families consistently praise the friendly, dedicated staff and the strong sense of “home” Memory Care at Astoria Park shines with its person-centered, holistic approach. From nutritious meals and 24/7 engagement to secure, comforting environments, every detail is designed for dignity, connection, and well-being. Services include personalized assistance with daily routines, social activities, private dining, and safe outdoor areas. Seems like the new Memory Care Director has really done some remarkable work.

The housekeeping staff is more professional than the caregiver's. I do like that one of the caregiver's Letty was friendly and professional. I would not recommend my friends or loved ones.

I’ve moved my mother from the Astoria Park due to horrible leadership, negligent medical management and terrible facilities. There’s high turnover and most med techs are contracted through an agency resulting in med errors and missed medication. The food looks like garbage. It’s unhealthy for elderly people. After a month, I’m still trying to get a refund for the unused rent owed back to my mother.

If you're considering Astoria for your loved one, here's the quick scoop! Don't just go by the high ratings and first impressions - do your own research and due diligence before committing to placement. I gave this place a 3-star rating because, honestly, it's not perfect but it's not the worst either. Starting with the positive, most of the staff are super friendly and doing their best. (If it wasn't for the staff, I probably would've given this place a 2 star rating) However, it's obvious that they are extremely understaffed and overburdened. There is a high turnover rate among care staff and management, it seems like they are constantly training new staff. Within just eight months of my mom's residency, both the Regional Executive Director and the Medical Director left, and there have not been any replacements yet. They also still do not have a transport shuttle driver, a service that is crucial for residents with mobility challenges to get to their appointments. The cleaning crew does very basic maintenance like emptying out the trash, so I have to do a deep cleaning of the room once a month. If your loved one requires incontinence care, be prepared for them to wait upwards of 30 minutes to an hour for assistance. Overall, Astoria provides an adequate level of care, but it's clear that there are a lot of issues with management. They seem to pride themselves on being the best of the best, but in reality, they are just providing the bare minimum. Hope this helps anyone navigating this tough decision.
