This is an Independent Living with Assisted Living apartment complex. We’ve been here ~8 months and there is a variety of activities so we’ve been making new friends. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable which is great as we’re new to Denver and Colorado. Food has been good and filling. 4 stars since something might get better.
My mother-in-law lived at Brookdale for four years before her passing. She was a resident of both the independent living and the assisted living facilities. She loved living there and the staff was the most warm, friendly, caring and professional of any that I have ever encountered. The staff of the assisted living facility went way beyond anything that I could have wished for with her care. She was cared for in an extremely professional and caring manner, always with respect and dignity. Rosalie and her staff were the most amazing care team I have ever had the pleasure of working with. There was absolutely nothing they wouldn't do for my mother-in-law, and my appreciation for what they did can't be expressed in a short review. I would highly recommend the Brookdale facility, their assisted living care staff and all their support staff to anyone who may be looking for a facility to care for their loved ones. I believe if you need excellent care for a family member, you should highly consider the facility at Brookdale University Park.
My 96-year-old mother spent 12 years living at Brookdale University Park, first independently and then in assisted living (AL). The community was engaged and supportive, the staff helpful and caring. When mom arrived in AL she required extra help with mobility and extra attention to personal care. We never worried for a moment that her needs would be met, and always with a smile. This was especially true at the very end. Brookdale U.P. is a first-rate, well-run independent and assisted living community.
We cannot say enough good things about Brookdale University Park. It was our mother's home the final 2-1/2 years of her life, first in her beautiful independent living apartment, with its view of both the Rockies and downtown Denver, and later, following a decline in her heath and physical capabilities, in a lovely assisted living studio apartment. We did not know what to expect when we moved her to assisted living, but we soon came to realize our mom was in the place she was supposed to be. Overseen by Rosalie Corral, the Health and Wellness Director, and Ana Ramirez, Rosalie's right-hand person, the entire AL staff and the housekeeping staff, provided excellent, personalized care and kind attention that demonstrated to use every day that our mom was being care for by people who treated her as they would want their own family member to be care for. On the afternoon our mom passed away, when we pushed her call button for the final time, every member of the AL staff who was available came to Mom's bedside. Rosalie had a job to do, but everyone else just came in to say their final goodbyes and to be there for us. There were many hugs and tears. It meant so much to us to know that our mom was so loved. Thank you Brookdale University Park.
I have lived at Brookdale U P for just over three years. When I first moved in, I was in a bad mental state because of the previous assisted living facility where I had lived for eight months. It was a prison (The house manager kept the burglar alarm on 24/7. The house residents would try to escape through the front door when someone came to the house.). I had come from a hospital that would not let the patients were shoes—only booties. As a result, I developed peripheral neuropathy. One of the best therapies for that disorder is walking. I asked the house manager if I could go outside and walk. So, the house manager finally gave me the combination to shut off the alarm. It was a small facility (there were eight residents). Seven suffered from dementia; I was the only rational resident. The staff was overwhelmed by those seven and would yell at them or make fun of them (which I consider elder abuse). Their behavior made me feel anxious and depressed. I would simply remain in room in basement and watch TV. When I moved to Brookdale, I was overwhelmed on many levels. First, they encouraged me to be engaged in activities (playing games of all kinds, going shopping, going out to restaurants for lunch or dinner, going on wonderful excursions to interesting venues—whatever piques the interests of each resident ). The facility has a library, a movie theater, a salon (for both men and women), a café which provides non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, and several open rooms for residents to enjoy as they choose. The food leaves a lot to be desired (the entrées are hurriedly prepared) and often the choices are not appealing—except for the dessert. But, that’s my only complaint. The staff is friendly, approachable, and very knowledgeable about a variety of topics. The care givers here are superb. They approach us a friends and are very willing to be helpful about anything. I live in the Assisted Living area. Rosalee Corrales is the supervisor. She has experience with helping older people (she is a nurse). She has gone out of her way to encourage me to be independent (I ride the bus to go stores to which the drivers do not take residents.) She has really been supportive of me in my journey. I admit that I have been difficult at times and Rosalee has spoken to me about my actions. But once I changed what I was doing, she was fine. I think of her as a friend, not as an authority figure. Because of my progress, I will be moving to an apartment in the Independent Living section of the building—I can’t wait! I think, if you’ve read all of my review, you may have gotten a better understanding of Brookdale U P. I highly recommend it. I feel like I live at resort. Thank you to the entire team here at Brookdale. Living here has truly restored my joie de vivre !
